SERIAL NO: See below
MANUFACTURER DESCRIPTION:
The HP 8730 Series of PIN Modulators increase the modulation capability of microwave signal sources and at the same time virtually eliminate incidental FM. These versatile modulators permit microwave signal sources including klystrons to be pulse modulated, leveled, or amplitude modulated with sinusoidal and complex waveforms.
Incidental FM is minimized because modulation is accomplished by absorption of RF power, independent of the signal source, with a nearly constant match presented to both the source and load. Thus the source can operate continuously at its optimum output level regardless of the type of amplitude modulation impressed on the signal.
Extremely fast rise times, typically 30 nanoseconds, also result from the absorption type of modulation, which sidesteps the bandwidth limitations imposed by high-Q RF output circuits. This fast rise capability makes the PIN Modulator suitable as a signal gate or non-reflecting RF switch; i.e., functions other than that of a direct signal modulator. For multiple, complex modulation and attenuation functions, two or more PIN Modulators can be placed in series and operated independently.
The HP 8730 PIN Modulators are available in coaxial configurations covering the range from 0.8 to 12.4 GHz in four overlapping bands.
